You’ve invested in high-performance Eco logs or wood briquettes, now, maximise their potential with proper handling and burning techniques. The key to getting the hottest, cleanest burn is keeping them dry and managing your appliance's airflow.
1. Storage: Keep Them Ultra-Dry (It's Critical)
Wood briquettes & Eco Logs are manufactured with less than x moisture content. If they absorb water, they will swell, crumble, and lose their high-efficiency burning advantage.
-
Location, Location, Location: Eco Logs and Briquettes must be stored in a dry, sheltered environment. This means a dry garage, shed, porch, or utility room.
-
Avoid Traditional Log Stores: Traditional log stores are often vented to allow airflow for drying green wood. This is bad for Eco Fuels, as vented spaces allow moisture and humidity in.
-
Keep Them Elevated: Store briquettes & logs off the floor, ideally on the pallet they were delivered on or on wooden planks, to prevent moisture absorption from the ground.
-
Keep Packaging Intact: Leave briquettes or logs in their original plastic wrapping until you are ready to use a pack. Even small gaps in the plastic can expose them to air moisture.
2. Burning: Start Small and Control the Air
Eco Logs and Briquettes burn hotter and longer than logs, so you must load less fuel and control the air flow carefully to avoid overheating your appliance.
-
Starting the Fire: Build your fire as usual with kindling and firelighters. Once the base is hot, start with two or three briquettes maximum. Break larger briquettes into smaller pieces if necessary to help them catch quickly.
-
Avoid Overloading: Never fill your stove more than halfway with briquettes. Because they are so dense, overloading can lead to excessive heat, wasting heat and fuel and potentially damage your stove.
-
Air Management: Leave the air vents fully open to allow the briquettes to ignite. Once they are fully burning (after about 10–15 minutes), gradually reduce the air flow using the damper controls. The goal is a steady, hot flame, not a roaring fire, to maximize burn time.
-
Recharging: Add one or two briquettes at a time once the current load has turned into a glowing coal bed. Their high density allows you to maintain consistent heat with less frequent reloading.
Following these simple storage and burning tips will ensure you get the reliable, high-output performance you paid for every time.
